At Southtree, we use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to digitize and transfer your old home videos and photos to DVD. With nearly a decade of experience digitizing old media, we breath new life into your memories, providing enjoyment for generations. There are no hidden fees, simply all the features that our customers deserve and want.
- Why digitize?
Assuming your VCR hasn’t already “eaten” them, the average lifespan of your home videotapes (VHS, etc…) is only 15 years! Slides begin to degrade at around 20 years.
If you’re like most people, your family history is tucked away in an attic somewhere. Most people are surprised at the degradation that has already occured when they finally decide to look at them again. In steps Southtree – we convert all your home movies and photos to digital, preserving them for generations to come.
- How does it work?
We’ve broken down our process into 3 easy steps…
1.) Get Started – Order online, using our Easy Order Form, or call us at 866.645.3358.
2.) Send In Your Order – Send in your home movies and photos to our secure processing facility. With our Order Tracking, we’ll let you know as soon as they arrive!
3.) We’ll Do The Rest! – Our team will professionally digitize your old media, place them on custom printed DVDs, and return the entire order (including your originals) back.
You can monitor our progress with our exclusive Order Tracking, and the whole process usually takes an estimated 6 – 8 weeks once your order arrives at our digitization studio. Due to the custom nature of old media digitization and the hands-on process Southtree uses, processing times are not guaranteed. Orders may require additional processing time beyond our provided estimates.
- Is it safe?
We take seriously the task of handling and perserving your precious memories. For this reason we’ve taken several steps to ensure a safe transaction.
Order Tracking – With our order tracking system, you can view the progression of your order as it goes through over 8 different processing steps, including initial inspection to a quality control check. You’ll also receive periodic e-mail updates or you may login via our website anytime to check your order’s current status.
Safe Labeling – When your order arrives our technicians will unbox, clean, count, and then label each tape with vital information so we know where each tape is at all times.
Secure Facility – Your orders are kept in our secure, climate controlled digitization studio located here in the United States.
Return Shipping – With our relationship with FedEx, we ensure safe shipment of your order back to you. Most orders are shipped via FedEx and include insurance and tracking. Orders less than 3 tapes may occasionally be shipped Priority Mail with tracking provided as well.
- What’s included?
Every order is digitized and placed on DVD. You’ll find no hidden “digitizing” fees of any kind. Just all the features you’d expect including, premium DVD discs (rated for 100 years!), custom printed DVD with titles (not budget DVD) and clear DVD protective cases. Of course each order includes our up-to-the-minute Order Tracking and Flat-Rate return shipping.
- Do you send back my originals?
Yes! We always return your original materials along with your new DVDs, usually through FedEx with insurance! All of this for our Flat-Rate return shipping of only $9.95, for any size order, anytime.

- How long does it take?
Orders take around 6-8 weeks to process once your order has been received. We do not guarantee processing times, and orders may take additional time beyond our estimated processing time to be completed. We believe in quality so we do everything by hand and we won’t compromise. Every order is runs through our quality control check to ensure we were able to preserve the best possible quality from your original media. Please see our terms of service for more information.

Another industry first, our flat-rate return shipping. Just $9.95 for any size order, anytime. Orders greater than 3 items are shipped through FedEx and include insurance.
Unlike other companies, there are no hidden fees for shipping back your original materials.
- What form of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards including, Visa, American Express, Mastercard and Discover. We also accept Check or Money Order with our Easy Order Form.
Technical Questions
- What formats do you convert?
Videotapes – VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, 8mm video cassette, MiniDV, HDV, and MicroMV.
Film – 8mm, Super 8mm, and 16mm
Photos – 35mm Slides, 35mm Negatives (no other negative formats at this time), and Photo Prints, up to 8.5×11.
- Will the DVDs play in my DVD player?
Each DVD is professionally mastered and authored, just like a Hollywood movie. They will play in all major DVD players and computers.
- Do you convert foreign or PAL tapes?
Yes! We’ll convert your foreign (PAL or SECAM) videos to US (NTSC) DVDs. Foreign conversions are an additional service and only $9.95 per tape.
- Do you convert material that is under copyright?
Yes! Legally, we’ll create one back-up copy of your home videotapes that are under copyright. We just ask you to sign our copyright waiver and include it with your order.
