Travel Essentials

“Vacation, all I ever wanted. Vacation, had to get away.”

Let’s face it, the Go-Go’s had a 2020 anthem way back in the early 80s with “Vacation.” Now, the summer of 2021is the return of vacation! With more and more people getting vaccinated, more and more places are opening up to visitors and tourists everywhere.

So, shake off that cabin fever feeling and book yourself and/or your family a little getaway. And since it’s been awhile since you’ve traveled, we’ll hook you up with five travel essentials you may or may not know you needed.

Note: This list won’t include things like deodorant, toiletries and the like. Those are no brainers. And if you forget to pack those essentials … well, you might just want to steer clear of people until you get back home.

Portable speaker/headphones

The only thing better than taking a much needed vacation is personalizing your escape with your own getaway soundtrack. Whether you’re on the beach, at the lake, on a river, in the mountains or just chilling poolside, having your own personal phone playlist follow you can really capitalize on the vacation bliss, especially when you’ve got a quality portable speaker pumping out your favorite jams.

A book

Yeah, yeah it’s a simple thing to pack but that doesn't diminish its importance or versatility. The thing about vacations is there is always downtime at some point – many points, actually. Whether you’re flying across country, driving across state lines or just lounging around the rental, sticking your nose in a good book is a great way to pass the time.

Games

Similar to the principle of a book, packing some games is a great way to entertain the whole family while traveling. From something as small and simple as playing cards to the more active frisbee to the unique Spike Ball, games are the perfect way to pass the time and infuse a little bragging rights into the trip. Loser buys drinks or cleans the rental.

Camera

Years ago, this was a travel staple – be it Polaroid, disposable or digital camera. Now, we all have cameras thanks to our phones. So, maybe this isn’t so much of a camera essential as it is a “ take photos” reminder. After all, capturing the moment is the best way to relive it for years and years to come. And if you’ve got a treasure trove of old polaroids or film in storage, consider sending them in for digitization today! It’s the perfect way to ensure your old memories don’t become forgotten ones.

Reusable water bottle

Okay, so this may sound eerily similar to the voice of your mother in your ear, but hey, hydration is key. In fact, did you know that when you fly your body goes through some pretty intense dehydration due to the low humidity from the pressurized cabin? That’s one reason it’s imperative to stay hydrated on a flight, but toting around a reusable water bottle on vacation is just an easy way to maintain your proper dose of hydration throughout your vacation days … especially if there’s going to be alcohol involved. Sure, it may sound like your mother telling you to “drink more water,” but when was your mom ever wrong, right?
